Apple Proposes Round-Trip Protocol to Test Tree-Structured Expression Serialization in Language Models
Apple researchers propose a round-trip protocol to measure how much tree-structured compositional content survives serialization into natural language. A generator turns a procedurally generated arithmetic expression into a word problem, a separate extractor recovers the expression, and symbolic equivalence serves as an exact oracle. The study evaluates all pairwise combinations of sixteen models.

Google Research Debuts Earth AI Population Dynamics Foundation Model for Public Health
Google Research introduced the Population Dynamics Foundation Model (PDFM), part of Google Earth AI, which compresses privacy-preserving search trends, mobility, built-environment density, and environmental data into location embeddings. Five partner-driven case studies show these off-the-shelf embeddings matched or improved conventional inputs across disease domains and epidemiological tasks without task-specific fine-tuning.
